Now, let's get to work!
Validate your business idea
Even if you're passionate about your product or business idea, it's only worth pursuing if people out there want it. Many products are created based on intuition and without considering the market. But that is why 40% of products fail. So, before anything else, let's first validate your idea.
STEP 01: Research existing demand
A great way to start validating your product is by analyzing existing demand. You can do this simply by using Google Trends to determine how often people search for your product, service, or topic of choice. This tool lets you see if your idea is trending upward or if it's in decline. The last thing you want is to enter a declining market.
STEP 02: Define your target audience
Simply put, your target audience is the people most likely to engage with your product or service. Your efforts will be guided by your target audience, from content and creatives to pricing, and you will be able to tailor your products and services to meet their needs. Start by answering these questions:
| ● What are the pain points of my target audience? | | ● How will my product or service help them? | |
Create your buyer persona
While a target audience defines a group of customers, a buyer persona focuses on specific members of that group - your ideal customer. Usually, businesses have more than just one buyer persona, so feel free to think of different ones yourself. This exercise will help you come up with ideas that will resonate with your audience.
When you create your buyer persona profiles, you need to think of their most common traits, such as:
| ● Age | | ● Interest | | ● Education | | ● Occupation | | ● Income, and more | |
The whole point is to understand your potential customers better, so you can effectively communicate with them and make them your actual customers.
STEP 03: Take a look at your competitors
Now that you've identified your target audience, it's time to look at your competitors. Starting a successful business is more likely if you know everything about your direct competitors. Competitive analysis lets you learn more about your competitors' products, wording and marketing strategies. You can use these findings to find best practices and help you shape the offer that will make you stand out from your competitors.
Here are the three essential steps you can follow to make a competitive analysis:
| ● Identify your competition | | ● Gather information on products, services, pricing, user experience, reputation, and marketing efforts | | ● Compare the strengths and weaknesses of each competitor | |
